project description:
The subject of the project is the reconstruction of an existing rural family house. The design builds upon the original architectural character of the building and enhances it with added value through the application of contemporary, restrained detailing to selected elements. The reconstruction is conceived with a sensitive approach to the existing fabric of the building—such as doors, windows, heating elements, and other components—which are refurbished and reused to the greatest possible extent, repositioned in accordance with the proposed spatial layout. As a result, the building achieves a clear contemporary architectural expression while retaining a tangible reference to its approximately 100-year history. Compared to the existing condition, the building is designed with an increased masonry upstand of approximately 900 mm, allowing for the creation of a new habitable attic within the roof structure. To improve daylighting conditions in the attic spaces, a dormer is introduced on the garden-facing façade. The façades are conceived as simple, smooth, white-rendered surfaces. Window openings are proportionally balanced and carefully composed within the façade planes. Towards the street, the house presents a more restrained and introverted appearance, while it opens up more generously towards the garden. The infill elements are designed as timber-framed windows in a turquoise-green tone, subtly accentuating the architectural character of the building.
